SONKER TRAIL
WE'RE PROUD TO BE PART OF THE SURRY COUNTY SONKER TRAIL
A sonker is a beloved Surry County dessert best described as a cross between a cobbler and a deep-dish pie. With roots tied to the early settlers of the Yadkin Valley, sonker has been passed down through generations, with families adapting recipes based on local ingredients, seasonal fruit, and personal tradition.
The origin of the word "sonker is still debated. Some believe it comes from Scottish dialect, originally referring to a small grassy knoll or a seat made from hay or straw. Others believe the name came from the way the crust sinks" into the fruit filling as it bakes. No matter where the name came from, sonker remains a true Surry County tradition and a treasured part of Surry County's culinary heritage.
As a proud participant in the Surry County Sonker Trail, 25 Summit Restaurant is honored to share our own take on this local favorite. Throughout the year, we feature seasonal sonker flavors that celebrate the freshest ingredients available. Past flavors have included blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, pineapple mango, pumpkin, and more.
